Cruises from Orlando Port Canaveral, Florida

If you plan to spend time exploring the area before or after your cruise, then a car rental might make sense. It can also be less expensive to rent a car for a day versus getting a ride or shuttle, depending on prices during your dates. One of the most popular cruise ports in the world, Port Canaveral sees millions of passengers sail annually. Of course before you start your cruise, you have to figure out how to get to the ship. The “A” terminal is where the large cruise ships — Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival — make their home. You will take this exit to your right and make a large loop around.

This was the Port's 1-month record and a 19% increase over March 2016. Port's FY2017 total revenues were USD 47,4 million (freight and passengers). In December 2017, Port Canaveral completed the 6-month long West Turning Basin deepening project, now allowing max draft of 45 ft (13,7 m). Port's containership terminal (North Cargo berths 5 and 6) is operated by GT USA. The dredging works removed 22,3+ million ft3 (632,000 m3) of seabed material. For the dredging was contracted Dutra Group (based in San Rafael, California).

Between theme parks, cruises, and beaches, there is an amazing amount to do and see. In addition, there are tons of hotels all competing with each other for business from tourists. If you’re coming in for a cruise, chances are you will arrive via the Orlando International Airport. The airport is 45 miles due west of the cruise terminal. Official Port Canaveral Cruise Parking is available only directly adjacent to each of Port Canaveral’s Cruise Terminals. The Port does not own or operate any off-Port parking facilities.

Public Transit from the Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral

The 1965-opened sea lock (part of Canaveral Barge Canal) is still in use, being maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Shipping and commercial fishing is also served by three 400 ft/120 m-long cargo piers constructed on the Port's north side in 1976. The seaport has supported NASA's space projects from the nearby JF Kennedy Space Center. During NASA's Apollo program, Saturn V rocket's segments transited via the lock. Space Shuttle's external tanks were floated for each mission into Port Canaveral, and the rocket boosters were towed back via the seaport, being fished from the Atlantic after each space launch. As homeport, this is a major turnaround port destination (serving roundtrip itineraries) with annual shipping traffic 4,5+ million cruise ship tourists.

Arriving at the terminal, you start to get a sense of the size of the facility. Given the size of Mardi Gras, a large terminal was needed to service the ship and the more than 10,000 passengers that could be embarking and debarking in a single day. To handle that traffic, the terminal is 185,000 square feet, making it the largest at Port Canaveral. Head to the indoor and outdoor observation decks at Exploration Tower (670 Dave Nisbet Drive, Port Canaveral) for panoramic views of the cruise port, Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral. In addition to a cafe and gift shop on the first floor, the tower has exhibits about the port and Florida's environment on each floor.

On your left you will see the parking garage and parking lots. Things can get a little confusing, so we’ve included the map below to who you the path you can take to pass in front of the two terminals and then continue on to the parking lot. To know where to go next, you need an overview of the cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. While the port is large, each of the major cruise line has its own dedicated terminals. Port Canaveral is currently homeport to 20 ships, including Carnival, Disney, MSC, Norwegian (NCL), Royal Caribbean and Marella Cruises. Carnival Cruise Line is the longest of any of the cruise partners and has been sailing out of Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal since 1990.

This airport is located approximately 45 minutes from Port Canaveral. Thus, you should plan your flights appropriately if you plan to fly in the day of your cruise. While many Florida locals do drive to the port, many cruisers still fly here for cruise vacations. Orlando International Airport hosts plenty of airlines from destinations across the country.

Which Cruise Lines Use Port Canaveral as a Homeport?

If you've got a few hours or an entire day, Kennedy Space Center (Space Commerce Way, Merritt Island) is worth the visit. Through exhibits, rides and interactive experiences, you'll learn about America's space program. You can even have lunch with an astronaut (for an extra fee). If you go, check out Space Shuttle Atlantis as well as the Rocket Garden and Kennedy Space Center bus tour. If the distance to the port is your No. 1 concern, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Port Canaveral, Florida, is your best bet. It's about three miles, or a six-minute drive, from Norwegian's cruise terminal.

To help you find a place offering a shuttle, we have a list of hotels with Orlando airport and cruise port shuttles for Port Canaveral. Now if you are flying in the day of your cruise, then hotel shuttles won’t work for you. As well, if you don’t plan to stay at a hotel the night before, then it’s not worth the extra cost of the room just for the shuttle. You should note that this is shared shuttle service that may be on a schedule. Typically there are several departure times from the airport, and you will ride to the port with other cruise passengers.

It is just off George King Blvd at Port Canaveral cruise port. The Cove has several restaurants serving the B cruise terminals on the south side of the port. These include Fishlips Waterfront Bar and Grill, Rusty’s Seafood and Oyster Bar, Gators Dockside Sports Pub, Subway, Rising Tide, and Grills Tiki Bar. It has over 1800 parking spaces with automated payment machines just a short walk from the ship. Luggage can be deposited at the parking garage, where it is transported by a huge covered conveyor directly to the ship to be scanned, security checked and loaded. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is approximately 45 minutes west of Port Canaveral cruise terminals.

The terminal features seating for 500 in an area that is sectioned off from the general boarding waiting room. Thanks to this location, it should be easier to get to without the traffic you might encounter on a busy day near other terminals clustered closer together. We have the answers so your first  time will be nothing but smooth sailing. If you're old enough to remember "I Dream of Jeannie," you probably remember that Cocoa Beach was the home of Jeannie and her astronaut love interest. Cocoa Beach isn't actually one beach but consists of a string of beaches that range 72 miles along the Atlantic Coast. With cash rates this low, you probably wouldn't want to use your Wyndham Rewards points but you could if you're flush with them.

So you could theoretically pick up a car in Orlando and drop off near the port. While up to four people can ride in a regular Lyft or Uber, with luggage, that would mean a tight squeeze. If you need more space, look for the “XL” services offered by the companies or you can book two rides.
